Ingrian Tape

A multi-disciplinary project — music, theatre, and a digital museum — rooted in my Ingrian heritage. A culture with 15,000 traditional songs and only about 100 speakers left; this work is an attempt to keep those voices alive.

Theatre

Original scores, sound design and sonic dramaturgy for theatre — built to move with light, staging and text, and sometimes performed live on stage.

  • Based on Sartre's No Exit — hell as a modern art hotel room where three characters trigger each other, and the moment anyone finds peace the Porter sends in a vision of what's happening back on earth. The audience never sees those visions: they only hear them. I wrote the full French electropop soundtrack and built a dense layer of sound design and multilingual dialogue (FR / PT / EN) so each viewer imagines the world behind the door for themselves — designed as a cue system the live sound op can react with, scene by scene.

  • Original score and music curation for a chamber piece on confinement and quiet rebellion. Written in close dialogue with the director, sitting under the text rather than on top of it.

  • Partly composed, partly improvised live on stage from Ableton Push — layers of live-looping with kalimba and harmonica on top, accompanying the performers and following the emotional arc of each scene in real time.

  • A piece made for Ukrainian refugee kids — an attempt to offer a small pocket of softness during a brutal time. I composed and played the music live, performed on stage as part of the cast, ran the sound at the same time, and helped hold the production together.

About

Hi, I'm Dmitry. As Van Sur Les, I make organic electronic music with elements of ambient and folk. I mix textured electronics, field recordings, and live instrumentation to create quiet, ritualistic soundscapes.

I also compose for theatres in Amsterdam and love collaborating with visual artists, theatre and film directors, researchers and fellow musicians. If you have an idea in mind, drop me a line.

Van Sur Les crafts music like memory — fragile, layered, and haunting.
